Plan a romantic getaway with your sweetheart to the Hazel River Inn in Culpeper. Today’s half-price deal includes a night’s stay in the historic inn, plus a savory prix fixe dinner created by Chef Peter Stogbuchner. DealChicken says you’ll squawk with delight when you experience this meal. It begins with soup of the day or a petite Caesar salad. That course is followed by either a tasty flat iron steak that’s been grilled to perfection, sliced and topped with house-made tarragon Béarnaise sauce and a fried egg or sage and blackberry chicken. The chicken is locally farmed, marinated in blackberry vinegar and homegrown sage leaves, and then sautéed. It’s finished with sherry wine and wild mushrooms. Dessert is warm apricot almond cake served with an apricot brandy cream. Delicious!

The rear portion of the Hazel River Inn is circa 1790, and the front portion is circa 1835. The first level has been used as a stable, tobacco warehouse, restaurant and other businesses. The lower level, which now houses the inn's pub, was once used as a Civil War jail for both North and South Armies.
